The Lactamo ball is a reusable ball that facilitates breast massage, which may help with common breastfeeding problems including oversupply, undersupply, blocked ducts and engorgement.
Lactamo is a soft sphere with hollow surface lumps filled with gel, which can be heated or cooled and has been specifically developed for breastfeeding. Applied directly to breast tissue, Lactamo can be used before, during or after breastfeeding, in the shower, and with massage oils.
Heating:
Lactamo is heated by submerging it in boiling water for 3 minutes, or it can also be heated in a conventional steam steriliser for one cycle.
Before you apply Lactamo to the breast, make sure it’s not too hot. Check if you can roll it in your palms comfortably for 10 seconds (that way, you’ll know it’s not too hot before you get started).
Do not heat Lactamo in a microwave.
Cooling:
Lactamo can be cooled in the freezer (preferably for at least 2 hours), or in a glass of iced water for 3 minutes.
Freezing it for longer will keep it cooler for longer.
When using a cooled Lactamo steer clear of massage and compression on your breast.
To use:
For a few minutes before a feed, roll heated Lactamo over the surface of the breast, always massaging towards the nipple, applying firm but comfortable pressure to the breast.

Lactamo is included in the ARTG (#371782) as a Class I medical device.
Care:
- Wash Lactamo before use
- Wash in warm, soapy water or throw it in your steam steriliser (note - not a microwave steriliser)
Warning:
- Make sure to handle your breasts gently, especially if they’re engorged, to avoid bruises
- Do not heat Lactamo in a microwave - Lactamo is not designed to be heated above 100°C
- Don’t use Lactamo if it’s too hot (make sure you can comfortably roll it in your palms for 10 seconds)
- Lactamo is for external use only - do not use Lactamo on broken skin
- Lactamo is not a toy - make sure to only use it as directed and handle it with care
- Only apply a comfortable amount of pressure to avoid causing any damage
- If the ball becomes damaged (such as if the outer silicone is cut or malformed) or the gel is exposed, discard Lactamo and rinse off the gel (don't consume it)
Do not use Lactamo with massage oils - these may interfere with breastfeeding, and may interfere with Lactamo’s silicone surface.
If symptoms persist or if you’re unsure or concerned, stop using Lactamo and consult your healthcare professional.
